Garden Design

When I moved from Bristol to the Cotswolds 12 years ago I took on a large garden suffering from a lack of maintenance and in need of a complete overhaul. I started to work on it without a clear idea of where I was going and made lots of mistakes!  After wasting time and money on buying the wrong plants, planting them in unsuitable places and becoming frustrated at the lack of progress I had a rethink. I decided to enrol on a garden design course so that I could remodel the garden properly and learn more about plants, structure and hard and soft landscaping.  From day one I was hooked and on successful completion of the course I enrolled on a second one – this time in Advanced Planting. After completing my own garden, I realised that there was an opportunity to link garden design to the interior design practice and started to offer this service to our clients.

There are many similarities between the two disciplines such as creating focal points and working with colour palettes and textures. The single biggest difference is that gardens take time to mature to their full glory –  I have had to learn to be patient!  Adding garden design to our portfolio has been a hugely satisfying diversification. The opportunity to link a house to its garden, particularly when working on extensions which necessarily mean alteration to the landscaping, has worked very successfully.
